shop core drilling bits

Rebar is one of the toughest materials to cut through, and it always requires a very serious core drill rebar cutter. Rebar is very often found in reinforced concrete, and when that concrete has to be removed, or when drill holes have to be drilled into it, only the toughest and most serious equipment is capable of doing the job. B+BTec offers several diamond core drill bits as well as some diamond-tipped drills which are capable of cutting through rebar, so when you’re obliged to take on a project like this, remember our company name and look for the products you need among our extensive range of rebar cutting equipment.

Drilling through rebar

Drilling through concrete to get to the embedded rebar is a very difficult task by itself, but it can be even more difficult if you’re obliged to cut through steel rebar. Hammer bits are ideal for cutting through even the most difficult concrete, but they are far less effective when it comes to drilling through reinforced steel. Anyone who was ever tried this proposition, his probably walked away in a considerably frustrated state of mind, with a broken or damaged bit which needed to be replaced.

For all concrete drilling, you’ll probably be just fine using a diamond core drill bit, but when it comes to cutting through reinforced steel, you’re probably going to have to go with a diamond core bit, or some other specialized rig. Diamond core bits have very little trouble cutting through even steel reinforced rebar, but it will require you to have on hand a secondary specialized diamond drilling attachment for every bit size which has to be used on the project.

Even if you have the right equipment for the job, you can still encounter some unexpected reinforced rebar. When that happens, you will need to have the correct coring bit on hand, or more than likely you will simply ruin your masonry bit. One solution would be to use a highly abrasive bit as your main core drill bit, and weld additional blades on the rig in a diffusion-welded configuration, so as to overcome the increased stress and heat of steel rebar.

In such a situation, your drill would pass right through the steel rebar, and you wouldn’t have to worry about your drill bit breaking if you unexpectedly encounter rebar in the materials or while drilling. Even this however, will not be the absolute best solution of the problem, since over a period of time your bit will degrade much faster than a standard masonry bit, because of the rebar it’s forced to go through.

Your drill bit will progressively become less effective, and will wear out fairly soon, at least compared to any bit used to drill through ordinary concrete. If you don’t want to wear out your drill bits this quickly, you could stick with the standard diamond coring bit which is prepared especially for the project you have in mind. Since diamond is the toughest substance known to man, it will last longer as a drill bit than anything else on the market. Of course, it carries with it a bigger price tag, so if you’re trying to conduct an operation on the less expensive side, you may have to exclude diamond-tipped drill bits from your arsenal of equipment.
